As some of the boldest of their kind, Port Renfrew surfers brave the cold winter waters to catch mammoth pacific waves. This is wave-riding at its most elemental—pulling on five mms of neoprene among a verdant cathedral of soaring old-growth Sitka spruce, Douglas fir and western red cedar and bobbing amidst logs, bald eagles and leaping marine life. From the beginner breaks south of Jordan River to bigger, more challenging surf in Jordan River, China Beach, and further north at Sombrio Beach, the Port Renfrew area is wave-riding nirvana all fall and winter long.
